Andamooka is a town that is about 550 km north of Adelaide in the Australian outback (South Australia). The economy of Andamooka is based on opal mining. Opals were first discovered in 1930, including the Andamooka opal which was presented to the queen of England in 1954.
Annual rainfall barely existent. The arid environment means tons of dirt and sparse, coarse, long grass. The few houses are primarily made of fibro and corrugated iron.
